The days are getting longer due to motion of moon around the Earth. Although this is happening at extremely slow rate but the day length is getting longer. The day length has increased by 1.7 milliseconds during the last 100 years. This seems unusual because we have never felt the elongation of day length. The day length is increasing because of the decrease in speed of rotation of Earth. The revolution of moon around the Earth is applying a pull which is trying to slow down the rotation of Earth. Let’s understand it in detail. Continue reading “The speed of rotation of Earth is decreasing due to revolution of Moon”

Near Earth asteroid held together by weak cohesive force

A Near-Earth asteroid having a potential threat to Earth does not have enough gravity to hold it together with its very high spinning speed. The spinning speed is high enough to break it apart into pieces then how is this asteroid held together? Continue reading “Near Earth asteroid held together by weak cohesive force”

Reasons for excessive amount of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere of Venus

The planet Venus is called the sister planet of Earth because it resembles the Earth in many ways but also different in many properties. The structure and size of the planet Venus are similar to the planet Earth. The difference lies in the temperature and composition of the atmosphere. The temperature of Venus is much larger than planet Earth and sufficient to melt lead. The atmosphere of Venus is so dense that the atmospheric pressure is 90 times the atmospheric pressure on Earth. The equivalent pressure on Earth exists in the oceans at the depth of 1 km. Continue reading “Reasons for excessive amount of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere of Venus”

Magnetic Home sustaining life

Magnetic Field protection from Solar wind
Magnetic field of Earth protecting from Solar wind

Everybody is usually familiar with word ‘Magnet’, magnet is a small piece of rock or metal that can attract many types of metals like iron, cobalt, and nickel. The range of application of magnet is also very wide from compass to electronic devices. The magnet creates some effects in the surrounding space that can affect other magnets and metal, this effect is called magnetic field. Magnet interacts with other material through this magnetic field. Continue reading “Magnetic Home sustaining life”

Today Earth has reached the farthest point in orbit around the sun

Today Earth has reached the farthest point in the orbit around the sun, which is also called aphelion. The opposite happens in early January when Earth is at the nearest point in the orbit which is called perihelion. The difference between the two is around 5000000 Km. Continue reading “Today Earth has reached the farthest point in orbit around the sun”

Longest night of the year due to December Solstice

December Solstice is the phenomenon which makes the 21st December special because it is also an astronomical event. Dec-21 is the shortest day and the longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere and shortest night and the longest day of the year in the southern hemisphere.
