One of the rare events is currently going on in the morning night sky. Whenever someone goes out for star gazing, always asks, “Is there any planet visible?” This time not one or two planets but all the five planets can be seen in a straight line simultaneously in the morning sky. Yes, you read correctly, the planet Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn can be seen at the same time in the morning sky just before the sunrise. Gamma Ray Burst: Most Mysterious and Energetic Event after Big Bang

Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) are the most powerful burst in the entire universe after big bang. GRBs outshine every gamma source in the sky even the sun. They brightness is more than hundred times the brightness of the normal supernovae. Since the gamma rays have the highest energy in all the electromagnetic radiation, they are the most lethal for any life form. The Gamma Ray Bursts are able to devastate the life on Earth if happens to occurs in the neighbourhood of the solar system. A large number of space probes and robots are exploring mars in search of life. Water is the main requirement for the existence of life on any place. The key role of water in existence of life has caused the scientific explorations to look for water on Mars Planet. You may have heard earlier that the water was present in the form of oceans in the ancient Mars and in the form of ice on Continue reading “NASA Confirms the Evidence of Liquid Water on Mars Planet”

Astronomical events are always one of the most fascinating events for everyone. This time a rare lunar eclipse is going to occur on night of 27 September 2015. You must be thinking that lunar eclipse happens many times a year than what is so special about this one. This lunar eclipse is coinciding with one more astronomical event related to moon that is called Supermoon. Continue reading “Rare Supermoon with Total Lunar Eclipse 2015 on September, 27”

The night sky has become beautiful these days. There are three planets visible to naked eyes in the night sky. These three planets are Saturn, Venus and Jupiter. Out of these Jupiter and Venus are coming close to each as if they are just going to merge. They will appear to meet each other on the night of 30th June 2015. I know now you must be Continue reading “Venus and Jupiter Conjunction on 30th June 2015: An Amazing Event”

What is Gravitational Lensing and its Cosmological Applications

The size of the observable universe is unimaginably large. The galaxies are separated from each other by such a large distance that even light takes millions and billions of year to travel from one galaxy to other. The galaxies present at these distant positions appear as point size and their brightness is so dim that they are invisible to naked eyes. We need various astronomical instruments to observe these distant galaxies. Continue reading “What is Gravitational Lensing and its Cosmological Applications”

What is a Black Hole? In Simple terms

Universe is full of beautiful and mysterious objects which have always amazed astronomers. One of the most mysterious objects is black hole. What is a black hole? Is it really a hole or what? Does it look black in color? What are the properties of a black hole? Some people ask, “Are these objects really exist in nature?” In this post we will try to understand what a black hole really is and its effects on space, star and objects around it. We will also try to learn the relation between black holes and evolution of universe. Continue reading “What is a Black Hole? In Simple terms”

NASA Research Suggests Water on Mars Planet was more than Earth’s Arctic Ocean

NASA research suggest that a primitive ocean on Mars held more water than Earth’s Arctic ocean. A six year analysis of water on Mars planet suggests that the Red Planet has lost the equivalent of an ocean’s worth of water over the past four billion years. However a debate has started raising the question of wheather the planet Mars was hot enough to host such an ocean. The Equatorial Coordinate System is used to locate the position of star on Celestial Sphere. The Equatorial Coordinate System is similar to the coordinates of longitude and latitude that we use to locate the position of any place on the surface of Earth. Let us first learn how to locate an observer on the surface of Earth.

We know that Earth moves from West to East along an axis which Continue reading “Celestial Sphere – The Equatorial Coordinate System”

Sky is full of interesting objects, one of which is nebula. You must have seen the beautiful images of nebulae like Crab Nebula, Orion Nebula, and Ring Nebula etc. These objects are named so differently because of their unique appearances which sometimes look like animals, eyes, rings and other familiar objects. Have you ever wondered what these beautiful structures are? How does such amazing structure form? Continue reading “What is a Nebula?”
